EDUCATION
EDG has completed projects from
preschools and preparatory, to specialised university research facilities,
including numerous greenfield P12 schools for Catholic Education, Anglican
Church and Education Queensland. In addition to addressing the functional
requirements of educational facilities, EDG provides design solutions that
address long term environmental and operational costs.
Educational facilities provide
our local communities with a unique heritage. Their value is not only in
educating new generations but in adding to local history and culture,
leading by example and instilling pride and fond memories in students,
parents and staff. EDG has undertaken works on numerous educational
facilities that inspire this kind of pride.
In terms of some of the
technical requirements of educational facilities today, many revolve around
technology. Data usage and transfer rates within senior schools can nowadays
regularly exceed four times that of a typical professional business.
Growing needs to train students in current technology continually increases
the demand on the data infrastructure. EDG has assisted numerous schools
and educational facilities in future proofing their data infrastructure to
accommodate upgrades without exposing undue costs or creating redundant
capital.
As more educational facilities
provide air conditioning for staff and students, EDG has undertaken numerous
power supply upgrades. It is no longer acceptable financially or
environmentally for staff and students to leave the electrical installation
operating when not in use. EDG has designed systems to automatically
control lighting and air conditioning so it is not operating unduly when
spaces are not used. Such systems are tailored to each installation and
have ranged from simple push button run on timers to centralised
pre-programmed control systems that generate the lesson bells and activate
the lighting, air-conditioning and power in rooms that are about to be
utilised.
EDG has worked closely with several educational facilities to develop cost
effective emergency and evacuation systems often beyond the requirements of
the Building Code of Australia. Such emergency and evacuation systems
address the unique nature of staff and student movement as well as risks
such as fire, intruder lockdown and armed attack.
