electrical systems.
PHILOSOPHY
At EDG we believe that our role as part of a project team is to
conduct our scope of works in a way that exceeds our clients’
needs.
We achieve this by focusing on:
- Maximising
our clients’ immediate and ongoing financial return
- Utilising
our clients’ financial capital appropriately and efficiently
- Qualifying
and ensuring ongoing benefits to our client
-
Identifying risk and effectively managing unknown factors
-
Distributing and managing information reliably and efficiently
-
Maintaining open lines of communication with our clients
EDG ensures that the relationships between financial
considerations, program and risk, be considered from the
client’s perspective at all times.
Developing friendly and open working relationships is integral
to our operating philosophy. This not only ensures that all
stakeholders are appropriately informed in order to meet and
exceed our clients’ expectations, but also allows all parties to
enjoy their involvement in each project.
The substantial volume of repeat business from long standing
clients and the amount of work gained via referral is testimony
to our success at fulfilling these objectives.
RESOURCES
With the proximity of the Brisbane and Gold Coast offices, the
Electrical Design Group is able to accommodate large workloads
and provide a quick response by utilising and transferring
in-house staff. To ensure accuracy and efficiencies are
maintained, the Electrical Design Group utilises a quality
management control and review system which was developed and
implemented jointly by both offices.
To facilitate such staff and information transfers, the
Electrical Design Group operates fully electronic offices
utilising the latest in design, documentation and system
management software.
EDG also has well-established relationships with a network of
suppliers, which ensures we always have access to the latest in
cutting edge and emerging technology. This allows EDG to
incorporate new products into tailored solutions for our clients
that maximise cost efficiency and product life span.
METHODS OF OPERATION
Internally, all projects are undertaken in accordance with our
control and review system. The Electrical Design Group provides
a project engineer as the single point of contact for each
project. The project engineer also controls and is responsible
for the project internally. We believe it is important for the
client to deal exclusively with a single project engineer who is
able to run the project from conception to completion, ensuring
consistency of work quality and communication.
Briefs
Following initial meetings and discussions on the project at
hand, a design brief is produced for all parties to review and
develop as appropriate. This document outlines the intended
scope, type, quality and provides preliminary space planning
data.
In addition to identifying the relevant aspects of our services
the brief defines all relevant associated works, which includes:
All assumptions are documented for review and comment by the
responsible parties.
Budgets
Budgets are assessed based on the design brief, enabling greater
degrees of accuracy of our own service’s budgets and ensuring
that associated works are all appropriately included.
Concepts
Part plans and sketches are produced to clearly communicate
requirements during the conceptual planning stage. The concept
documents often form part of the brief.
This simplifies the development of conceptual architectural
plans and allows constructive commentary to occur prior to
detailed development.
Detailed Design
Clear AutoCAD drawings and part plans are presented in two
fundamental stages:
The early issue of these plans and drawings enables the end
user, as well as the design team, to review more detailed
layouts and to facilitate any modifications.
Reviews
Design reviews are inherently built into the development
processes outlined above. Budgetary reviews are also undertaken
throughout this developmental process. We believe that it is
critical to undertake reviews of our own work not only in-house
but also utilising the relevant resources of the project team.
This ensures that at each stage, the project is being lead in
the right direction and the clients’ interests are protected.
Construction
The construction phase is approached proactively with regard to
reports, site inspections and meetings, providing valuable
leadership and control of sub-contractors and authorities.
This accountability ensures the construction team receives
maximum assistance and the design team remains fully informed at
all times.
QUALITY OF DOCUMENTATION
Documentation is the key method of communicating a design, and
as such, the Electrical Design Group places extreme importance
on quality and consistency, which includes:
-
Correspondence that is formal, clear and concise
-
Specifications that are detailed and specific to the project
-
Drawings that are neat, accurate and clearly legible
-
Reports that are brief and specific to the purpose.
